The United States of America has the mechanisms to avoid horrendous tragedies like the one in Uvalde, TX, and around the country.

The elements in the equation are, lawmakers, the gun lobby, and the American people.

More than 80% of Americans support gun safety measures. The other two elements complement each other. The gun lobby, the most powerful (=money) in Washington, pays the lawmakers to not let advance any measure related to guns. Then the lawmakers block any effort to control the massacre to keep their power (=money).

Civil organizations are advocating strongly for gun control. They represent the vast majority of Americans on this subject, but the lawmakers conveniently only obey those who pay them, the gun lobby.

Should the Americans prioritize this subject when electing their representatives to produce the change, and elect lawmakers that do not get bought by the gun lobby? Probably, but what people have at the top of their minds when casting their votes are their basic daily needs.

The need and urgency to protect the kids from being massacred is not a priority until the little one of the family is not coming back from school.
